    Unemployment Benefit

    In accordance with the provisions of Law no. 105/2018 on the promotion of employment and unemployment insurance, the amount and payment of unemployment benefit is determined by the National Office of Social Insurance.

    The amount of the unemployment benefit is 40% of the person's average insured monthly income, earned in the last 12 months of the last 24 calendar months preceding the date of registration as unemployed.

    The average monthly insured income is determined by dividing by 12 the insured income earned in all units in the last 12 months of the last 24 calendar months preceding the date of registration as unemployed, from which social insurance contributions have been calculated and paid.

    The amount of unemployment benefit may not exceed the average monthly wage in the economy for the year preceding the date of entitlement to unemployment benefit.

    If the amount of unemployment benefit exceeds the average monthly wage in the economy for the previous year, unemployment benefit shall be set at the average monthly wage in the economy for the previous year.

    The amount of unemployment benefit for persons who have been on maternity leave and/or leave for childcare up to the age of 3 is determined on the basis of the person's insured income before the start of maternity leave/ leave for childcare up to the age of 3, or on the basis of the insured income in the last 12 months of the last 24 calendar months preceding the date of registration of the person as unemployed. Priority will be given to the period which determines the higher amount of unemployment benefit.

    In the case of unemployed persons with special status, the amount of unemployment benefit is set at 700 MDL per month.

    Unemployment benefit is paid monthly for the previous month.

    Unemployment benefit is paid using the payment method selected by the beneficiary and available through the government's electronic payment service (MPay). The National Office of Social Insurance keeps records of the payment of unemployment benefit.

    Unemployment benefit amounts established and not received by the beneficiary within 12 consecutive months shall be suspended and paid retroactively for a period not exceeding 3 years prior to the month of referral, but not earlier than the month of suspension, on the basis of a request submitted by the beneficiary to the National Office for Social Insurance.

    The amounts of unemployment benefit established but not paid in connection with the death of the beneficiary are paid, including for the month of death, to the surviving spouse, parents or children of the beneficiary, and in their absence - to the person who proves that he/she has borne the expenses incurred by the death.”

    The period of payment of unemployment benefit is differentiated according to the contribution period of the unemployed person, as follows:

    a) 5 calendar months in case of a contribution period between at least 12 months and 10 years;

    b) 7 calendar months in case of a contribution period between 10 and 15;

    c) 9 calendar months in case of a contribution period of more than 15 years.”
