    Monetary compensation for persons who suffered from the Chernobyl accident

    Persons who have suffered from the Chernobyl accident, according to the Law no. 909/1992 on the social protection of citizens who have suffered from the Chernobyl accident, Government Decision no. 575/1992 on the granting of relief to employees of special risk subdivisions who have fallen ill with actinic disease or have become persons with disabilities and the Regulation on the procedure for providing free tickets for treatment in balneo-sanatorium institutions and payment of monetary compensation in exchange for tickets to persons who have suffered from the Chernobyl accident and employees of special risk subdivisions who have fallen ill with actinic disease or have become persons with disabilities approved by Government Decision no. 1152/2008, if it is not possible to obtain and grant the ticket according to the profile of the recommended balneological institution or if there are medical contraindications for balneological treatment, are entitled to monetary compensation in the amount of the average cost of a ticket (hereinafter referred to as compensation), starting from the second quarter of the reporting year.

    To receive compensation, persons who have suffered as a result of the Chernobyl accident and their children shall, by December 31 of the reporting year at the latest, submit an application for compensation to the TOSI of their place of residence. 

    In order to receive compensation, persons who have suffered from the Chernobyl disaster and their children shall, by 31 December of the reporting year, submit an application for compensation to the TOSI of their place of residence with the following documents:

    a) original and a copy of the identity card confirming the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova;

    b) original and a copy of the birth certificate - in the case of children;

    c) confirmation of the impossibility of granting the ticket for the respective year, issued by the medical-sanitary institutions in whose records the person is, or medical conclusion (model approved by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection), issued on the basis of the entries in the child's development booklet (Form no. 112/e), concerning the child's health condition, including the indication of contraindications for rehabilitation/recovery treatment - in the case of children;

    d) medical conclusion, according to the model approved by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection, issued on the basis of the entries in the Outpatient Medical Record (Form no. 025/e), if the applicant has medical contraindications to balneo-sanatorium treatment - in the case of adults;

    e) original and a copy of the identification card for participation in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident or nuclear experiments, ionized radiation accidents and their consequences on civil or military atomic targets of the applicant, in the case of children, of the parent.

    The size of the compensation is set annually by the Board of Directors of the National Office of Social Insurance.

    In 2023, the amount of compensation for mature beneficiaries was set at 9930 MDL. For children from 14 to 18 years of age, the amount of compensation was set at 9930 MDL, for children from 7 to 14 years of age – 7830 MDL, and for children from 4 to 7 years of age – 4965 MDL.
